Add Edit Events

MVBC Events How-to

As of Wednesday September 29, 2021 these instructions only include posting Free Bird Walks and Community Events.
In the WordPress Admin notice the “Event’s option. The fly-out menu has quite a few options.
Feel free to use any of these options to edit. However, I suggest just using the “Events” link to see all events or the “Add New” to create a new event.

Create New Event

Mouse over Events and click “Add New”

Add a Title

Note that we have Bird Walks that appear to be repeating like Group Birding and Birding 101, etc. These are not actually repeating because the Leader and Location change. They just have the same name. So, if this is going to be a Group Birding Event just add Group Birding. WordPress knows how to keep them separated even though they have the same name.

Add Content

  1. In the Content area add your content.
  2. You can use all the formatting tools. Not too much please.

Enter the Event Category

It’s important to enter the event category. If you don’t the event won’t display on the font-end.
Please do NOT ADD NEW CATEGORIES. If you do you risk the event not displaying on the front end.

Add an RSVP or Ticket NOT IN USE AT THIS TIME

We don’t use this feature but we need it to tell the Event that it will be FREE.
The type is “Free Bird Walk”
Or ADD a Ticket(s)
If there’s a price range, just add two tickets.

Add Date and Time

Enter the start end date and times. If there is no end time make it the same as the start time.

Enter the Location

The Events refers to the location as “Venue”.
  1. Existing events locations will be listed. Use one if appropriate.
  2. Or, create a new location by clicking in the this field and typing. Then click on the blue area to enter the location.
Creating a new location
Create a new location by clicking in the this field and typing. Then click on the blue area to enter the location.
After you click “Create: (location name)” the screen will present address info. Complete the highlighted fields.
Ensure the “Show Map:” and “Show Map Link” options are checked.

Save/Publish/Update

Of course remember to save your work.

Edit an Existing Event

You can use the “Events” button in the WordPress Admin to locate and find an event if you’d like to edit. I prefer to surf to the event and select the “Edit Event” button at the top of the page.
For example I’m viewing the  October 23, 2021 Group Birding  event. Then I select Edit Event. This way I’m sure I’m editing the correct event. Like this…
  1. You can even edit the Location and Organizer (Leader)

Of course remember to save your work.
