Snake Mapping & Monitoring
We are collecting data about snake sightings on Martha’s Vineyard, and are particularly interested in black racer sightings.
NOTE: All snakes found on the island of Martha’s Vineyard are harmless to people and pets, and they are beneficial to have around your yard as milk snakes and black racers both eat rodents, such as white footed mice, that contribute to tick borne illnesses.
To share your sightings, visit the Martha’s Vineyard Atlas of Life.
We are no longer mapping snake sightings on this page.
You can view recent snake sightings on the island through the MV Atlas of Life project in iNaturalist.
